This is a narrative based off of the song "From My Own True Love (Lost at Sea)" by The Decemberists.

I used layers of cardboard, cut paper, fabric, and string. Here are some close-ups of the piece.

For this art show the only requirement was to recycle old records in some way. I chose to paint/collage directly onto the records. I had an idea to do a dream sequence on an old man and here are a few I came up with, there are 10 total:

Working with a Theme

I finally got some good scans of my theme series (It has taken a while because they are huge). For this series, I wanted to create a body of work based on personally symbolic objects that I have always been fascinated by or have found endearing. I wanted my viewers to find the work visually irrational, yet beautiful to look at. I also wanted to focus on using as many materials as possible and in each of these pieces I used over 15 different types of medium.

Recently fixed up the apartment, those two pieces hanging are both ones I did last quarter in my water based media class.

Pen and Ink

An in class experimental project with Pen and Ink. A somewhat of a copy of a piece by Gerry Gersten. I really like how it turned out.

First of the Year

My first illustration assignment of the year... The New Yorker cover concept. It's a statement on the increase of job loss in the US. Something people should worry about these days; I guess. The piece wasn't done in what I would consider my normal style. It started as an ink drawing that I began to color in with colored pencil, until my teacher decided that I had made a mistake and it wasn't the look he had in mind from my original sketches... So I took my amateur photoshop skills and digitally colored in everything to make it a more Guy Billout/Istavan Banyai look.

I guess everyone has to have a first blog entry...
